Future Friendly: Responsive Drupal Theming

by Four Kitchens

Future Friendly: Responsive Drupal Theming, presented by Chris Ruppel.

Responsive. Adaptive. Mobile. Touch. Does it seem like Drupal theming is getting exponentially harder? The front-end game is changing quickly, and it’s not going to slow down. So how do you wrangle Drupal into being a mean multi-screen machine when it was originally created as a desktop-only interface?

We’re working hard to make Drupal 8 future-friendly, but with some planning you can create beautiful, bandwidth-conscious, responsive websites today in Drupal 6 or 7.

During the session we will…
-Learn what’s involved in a mobile-first responsive layout in Drupal, relying on your mad theming skillz or a base theme.
-Use JavaScript to create responsive images and video.
-Embrace feature detection using a library like Modernizr to progressively enhance websites more effectively.
-Force layout-influencing modules (like Panels) into delivering mobile-first output using CSS3 media queries.
-Discuss the shift in thinking that is necessary to understand this brave new world of front-end development.
-Behold demos that will rekindle your faded romance with Drupal theming.
